Planed Iroko in a full range of sizes, 25mm to 100mm thick and 25mm to 225mm widths. Iroko is a golden / orange – brown, lighter vessel lines can be seen on the flat sawn surfaces. Some material may contain large, hard calcium-carbonate deposits in cavities, in such cases the wood around them is often darker in colour. The grain is interlocked and sometimes irregular so the texture is coarse but even. Iroko works acceptably well with hand and machine tools, the timber also glues, nails and screws well. When the grain is filled an exceptional finish can be attained. Iroko is very durable and resistant to preservative treatments, the sapwood is however permeable. Iroko is used extensively for boat and ship building as well as interior and exterior joinery.
